You guys know how much I love the holidays, and a Christmas wedding can truly be an unforgettable experience. Several years ago my team had been hired to provide rental services for a Christmas wedding. We weren’t hired as planners, because the bride wanted to cut costs, so she asked her family and friends to help DIY the wedding. She told us she had her planning covered, but as the night progressed it became apparent that she was in over her head.
The wedding started late and progressed slowly, with the bridal party shuffling about aimlessly and the bride having no idea how to keep things running smoothly. The decorations were sparse, and the food was way too basic for a wedding of this caliber. As the night ended it was clear that everyone had had a good enough time–but only because they were so determined to celebrate the bride and groom’s special day.
Then, the disaster came. When it came time for packing up after the reception, we watched in shock as drunk groomsmen threw all sorts of decorations into a pickup truck – from Christmas trees to vases filled with holiday bulbs. It was chaos – things were being thrown carelessly around and broken beyond repair. The bride’s mementos that she worked so hard on creating were now destroyed.
I could only watch in horror as I had no control over the situation. After the incident, I saw the bride in the corner crying and tried my best to console her. This crisis could have been averted if she had opted for a professional planner to be in charge of the wedding, instead of relying on friends and family.
