One to Remember: Hailey and Dan’s 2011 New Year’s Eve

Hailey and her fiancé Dan met “by fate” at a New Year’s Eve party (a party that neither was invited to) in 2011. They met on the dance floor and kissed at the stroke of midnight, making the rest history.

Strangely enough, Hailey (only 15 at that time) and Dan (then 17) attended rival high schools, but her cousin and his little brother grew up playing little league together.

“We fell in love quickly, and for the past five and a half years, I’ve been blessed to have my best friend and love of my life by my side through thick and thin,” Hailey said.

The proposal

The couple picked out Hailey’s engagement ring together after being together for five years. They were ready their future.

“He had told me that he planned on ‘psyching me out’ a couple of times so that I would still be surprised,” Hailey said. “So… when he asked me to go to a candlelight hike at Lapham Peak the night the ring was available for pick up, I thought that he was yanking my chain.”

She painted her nails, just in case, but tried not to get her hopes up.

The two arrived at Lapham, but had to turn around because they were full.

“I could see Dan panicking a little bit,” Hailey explained.

Instead they went to Fox Brook Park for a picnic. They took a walk around the beach before eating, but before sitting down for dinner, Dan popped the question.

“My cutie pie surprised me with a bottle of champagne and a rose, as he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him,” Hailey said. “It was the easiest decision I’ve ever had to make in my life.”

This upcoming year will be a special one for this couple, as they will get married Oct. 21, 2017.

5 New Year’s Eve Date Ideas

If you are looking for a way to spend your New Year’s Eve with your significant other, I’ve come up with some ideas for you.

  1. Go Big.

Have you dreamed of spending the New Year in New York City? Or Paris? Do it. Make this NYE one to remember. I think it is important that couples go on adventures together and make each other’s dreams a reality. Go big for 2017.

  1. Enjoy a nice evening at home.

Not everyone wants to go big. Some would rather go home. If your significant other is someone who’d rather stay in, make two cups of hot cocoa, grab a warm, fluffy blanket, and enjoy each other’s company.

  1. Spend the night in a cabin.

Or the weekend. It’s a great alternative to staying in and gives you and your significant other some alone time. If rustic isn’t your style, try spicing things up by staying in a hotel.

  1. Hold a house party with friends.

This is a great way to celebrate the New Year. Get together your closest (or not so close) friends and celebrate with champagne. It’s sure to be a good time.

  1. The same thing you’ve done every other year.

If you and your beloved have a tradition, keep it. If you’ve had fun in the past, you’ll likely have fun again. Keep it up.

Have a Happy New Year. Consider proposal planning, or refer your soon-to-be engaged friends to me for an adventure of a lifetime. At Weddings of Pittsburgh, we make proposals special. Call today for more information.

The dynamic duo will be spending New Year’s Eve together, of course. We haven’t decided which of these five we will be doing yet, stay tuned by liking and following us on Facebook.

Happy 2017!
